January

It's been so long since I posted that I actually forgot my log-in information. But we're having a lazy Saturday and I just heard Kelsie say, "Dylan, you're such a sweet little brother," (that was before he threw a piece of a wooden train set at her head), so that prompted me to get back on here.

It's been a COLD month here. Most days have been in the teens and 20s. The kids don't seem to mind it as much as we do, except that Dylan REFUSES to wear hats or gloves so if we're going any farther than the car it is a battle that usually ends with at least one of us in tears. Plus, the static makes Kelsie's hair look like this:

Kelsie got into the charter school we wanted for kindergarten this fall, which is an enormous relief. It was a lottery system. So, there's a light at the end of the outrageous preschool tuition tunnel. Cha-ching.

The kids have both become so damn sweet. Dylan gives the best hugs and kisses (sometimes aggressively -- we'll work on that) and says things like "lub you" and "tank you mommy." Kelsie has had a few tear jerkers, too, like "I'm so happy we're a family," and "you are the best. parents. ever." And they are becoming great friends, which is amazing to watch. They play together (sometimes just put up with each other) so well and look out for each other. The other day Dylan wouldn't start eating his breakfast till he gave Kelsie her waffle.

She's reading well now, which is so cool to see. And Dylan's starting to talk a lot. He gives us lots of helpful advice, like "uh oh. dropped it!" (when we know damn well he threw it) and he calls for Bodhi to clean up after his food messes. As further proof that he is our son, he has repeated the F word a couple times (complete with pounding fists) and "choklat" is one of his favorite words. That's my boy. This morning he tricked me into giving him chocolate milk -- I had given him juice, which upset him because it clearly was not "choklat" (if only he knew how to day "duh, mom") so after few minutes of him asking and us refusing, he pointed at the refrigerator and said "cheese." So I opened the fridge and gave him cheese, which he refused but used the opportunity to grab the chocolate milk carton. I got duped by a 21-month old.

My new job is going well. It's really, really busy, but I'm liking it. I'm pretty used to the commute now (at least I get a little exercise for once), and Brian has been an amazing support. He is getting his old pet care/dog walking business going again, and in the meantime has been pulling a lot of weight around here -- doing drop-off and pick-up for the kids every day, getting them dressed, often getting their dinners started before I get home. He's awesome.

That about covers what we've been up to lately, so I'll just leave you with this video. Jaime took Kelsie ice skating, and let's just say she's probably never going to make it to the Olympics ...
